What is health coaching?

Our current medical system is great for emergencies, but can often fail to provide answers for chronic health issues. Most patients visiting a Doctor’s office are frequently met with a ‘diagnose, prescribe and treat’ approach. Although this may work in certain cases (e.g. infection), it’s unlikely to resolve most long-term health issues.

Health coaching aims to address the root cause of health issues. Instead of treating symptoms with drugs, it aims to promote long-lasting health through lifestyle intervention. Unlike the traditional doctor/patient relationship; you and your health coach will work in partnership to discover the best way to achieve your goals.

How is health coaching different from 'standard' medical care?

Classic modern medicine uses a ‘sick care’ system that uses a reactive approach to treat symptoms of disease with drugs. Health coaching provides ‘heath care’ by addressing diet and lifestyle in order to fix the route cause of disease or prevent illness from occurring altogether.

Are you just going to tell me what to do?

Health coaching is a partnership. It involves the coach supporting the client in working towards their goals by creating an agreed upon wellness plan. A teacher/student approach rarely helps to improve health and that’s a big reason why modern medicine has failed to address the health of so many patients.

Are you going to put me on a restrictive diet and exercise plan?

Restrictive eating patterns and overly intense exercise programs are unsustainable and don’t support long-term health. Coaching will allow us to work together in finding a suitable diet and lifestyle that is enjoyable and sustainable with lifelong results.

Do I have to give up anything?

During your health coaching sessions you will learn how to make healthier decisions and what your behavioural triggers might be. Armed with this new knowledge; you will then receive plenty of ongoing support around healthy lifestyle habits. It’s then up to you to decide what lifestyle goals you would like to achieve and what decisions you make.

Are you going to force me to eat food that I hate?

Absolutely not! The wellness plan agreed upon will aim to include delicious meals that you enjoy without restriction.

Any dietary pattern discussed will be non-biased and based around the food you enjoy eating. I want to make sure you’re feeling full and satisfied at the end of your meal, not frustrated and hungry!

We will focus on diet quality and ensure nutrient dense food is included. Nutrition is extremely personalized and you will not be put into any ‘dietary camp’.

How long will I need health coaching for?

It depends! Some may need just a few sessions to resolve a single issue, while others may need years if support.

Since health coaching gets to the root cause; expect to commit for at least a couple of months. Success can often take a minimum of 12 sessions to see real, long-lasting results in multiple areas.

A confidentiality agreement will be signed at the beginning of our partnership. Your data will be fully protected and you can rest assured that our conversations will remain private.
